Our University Hosted Members of the Press with a Press Conference

A press conference was held to inform the public about the achievements obtained in the 2026-2027 academic year through academic, scientific, student-focused, physical investment, and city-industry collaboration efforts at our University.

The meeting, held at the University's Staff Cafeteria, was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, our Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Serel and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Erçakar, our Deputy General Secretaries İlker Gökhan and İsmail Yaşar, our Corporate Communications Coordinator Lecturer Muhammet Yörübulut, and numerous members of the press. Addressing the press at the opening of the meeting, our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz emphasized that our University is not only an institution where knowledge is produced and transferred; it is also a center of science and wisdom that prepares young people for the future and contributes to the development of the city and the country.

Our Rector stated that according to the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Examination results, our University has reached a 100% occupancy rate in its associate and undergraduate programs, with all 2,748 available places filled and a total of 2,811 students admitted to the programs. Including the 121 students admitted through the special talent exam, the total number of students joining our University family in the new academic year has reached 2,932. Our Rector stated that these results are a significant indicator of the trust young people place in our University. He also noted that the University's attainment of full institutional accreditation for five years is a significant indicator of its quality work, stating that it is one of only 34 universities out of 208 in Turkey to receive full accreditation. Furthermore, he mentioned that many academic programs have received full five-year accreditation, and that the relevant departments of the Faculty of Maritime Studies have been accredited by the IMO.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr., emphasized that student satisfaction is among the University's priorities. Professor İsmail Boz stated that, according to the TÜMA 2026 results, our university has risen to 23rd place in overall student satisfaction among 126 state universities. He mentioned that they have implemented the Social Transcript Application to make students' scientific, cultural, social, sports, and volunteer activities, in addition to their academic achievements, more visible. Our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, also spoke about the "Suspended Meal" program, initiated to support students' social and economic lives, stating that 339 meals have been left on the "suspended" list and 328 have been taken by students so far. He also mentioned that as of July, they have increased the variety of meals offered to students and staff from four to five. Stating that they prioritize creating a healthy and safe campus environment, our Rector announced that they have launched the "Completely Smoke-Free Campus" program across all campuses as of July 1, 2026.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, also touched upon investments in the physical development of the university. Rector İsmail Boz announced that construction has begun on the 5,000 square meter Central Lecture Hall Building on the Central Campus, with physical completion reaching 15%. He also stated that the 2,000 square meter Central Research Laboratory has been completed and put into service. Furthermore, he noted that the restoration work on the historical Redif Barracks has reached 42% completion, with the project planned for completion in 2027. The Rector also reported that the restoration of the historical Pertevniyal Hospital has been completed, and that the construction of the University Mosque has reached 70% completion. He described the building as a vibrant social complex encompassing a youth center, library, classrooms, and social facilities.

Touching upon the importance of university-city and university-industry collaborations, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz stated that they have signed a cooperation protocol with the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce covering education, research, entrepreneurship, employment, technology, and digital transformation. (Bandırma Technology Development Inc.) Our Rector stated that they signed a cooperation protocol for the establishment of TEKMER (Technology and Technology Center), and that they aim to provide training and consultancy support to entrepreneurs through TEKMER, to make the University's research infrastructure available to entrepreneurs, and to bring technology-oriented projects together with investors. He also stated that they are continuing the applied education model with programs tailored to the needs of the sector at the Bandırma Organized Industrial Zone Technical Sciences Vocational School, and that work is ongoing for the Gönen Smart Agriculture Technologies Agricultural-Based Specialized Organized Industrial Zone Vocational School.

At the end of the meeting, our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz, answered questions from the press, stating that the University is preferred by its students, has a proven quality, develops its scientific research capacity, preserves its historical heritage, integrates with the city and industry, supports technology and entrepreneurship, and serves its community.
